Children's Hospital Toy & Other Upcoming Events

Members,

Hello All,

Please see the message below from Capt. Nathan Geiger regarding the 2019 Children’s Hospital of Colorado Motorcycle Toy Run being held on December 8th and put it on your social calendars!!

Staging is at the Aurora Mall beginning at 08:00, next to Sears Department Store.

The holiday season is fast approaching and that means it is time for the 2019 Children's Hospital of Colorado Motorcycle Toy Run! AFR, Local 1290 and the Aurora Firefighters Chapter of Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club have once again been asked to help put this event on. I am looking for volunteers to help collect toys from the riders as they arrive at the hospital, to move the toys inside the hospital, and to help with staging participants before the ride begins. All the details are listed below and I have attached the Children's “Wish List” to this email. Thank you!

Returning Volunteers: Please note there has been a time change and staging for the run has been moved to the Aurora Town Center!

Date of Event: December 8th, 2019

Volunteer meeting Time & Location: 0900AM, the Toy Drop Off area is on the east side of the hospital along North Wheeling Street. Volunteers can park in the parking structure on the south side of Colfax, across from the hospital. If you would like to help with staging and then ride in the event you will need to be at Aurora Town Center (eastside near Sears) at 07:30 that morning.

Dress: Union T-shirts, Sweatshirts & Jackets, or AFR Job Shirts. The weather is the big variable so if it's cold dress warmly. The Toy Run will go on no matter what the weather does. If the weather is too bad for motorcycles, participants will arrive in cars so we will still need to be there to help. So rain, snow or shine, please plan on coming out. Please remember we are representing AFR, Local 1290 and Children's Hospital so dress accordingly.

Families: Many of you have expressed interest in bringing your families. I support this and encourage you to include children, family members, spouses and significant others in this great event. Please remember this is a very large event with the potential for several thousand motorcycles and several thousand staff, volunteers and parade watchers. It is imperative that if you bring children you plan on watching them closely and recognize small children will be limited in how they can participate due to safety concerns. We will be working in traffic!

General Information: The first motorcycles should arrive at the hospital a few minutes after 1000. We have some set up and organizing to do prior (hence the 0900 arrival). Riders have the option of parking their bikes and walking into the hospital or dropping off their toys and leaving. We will be unloading toys from the bikes at the drop off area, loading the toys into trucks, and assisting with unloading at the hospital following the event. I am hoping to have the trucks unloaded at the hospital by 1230. If you chose to help with staging you should be done and free to leave the Town Center between 1100 and 1130.

Toy Donations: Volunteers can bring a new unwrapped toy to the event if you choose. If you want to donate but can't attend please drop your toy by Station 10 c/o Nathan Geiger or Station 11 c/o Tom Dill. I will make sure all donations get to Children's. The children and the hospital are grateful for all donations but have found that the older patients (12-19 years old) tend to receive fewer gifts. If you choose to give this year please consider a gift for these older children or pick an item from the wish list that was generated by the patients (see link below). If you are still unsure of what to donate or are short on time the hospital gladly accepts cash and gift cards!https://www.childrenscolorado.org/globalassets/community/donate-volunteer/wish-list.pdf

... I have forgotten any important details or you have any questions please feel free to give me a call.
PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING...

Thank you!!!
